Shea & Cocoa Butter PrePoo Hair Conditioner/Body Butter

This conditioner/butter is perfect for use during the winter months when your hair and skin are being assaulted by the elements and dry heat. It will leave both brilliantly soft and supple.

Shea & Cocoa Butter PrePoo Hair Conditioner/Body Butter
(Makes One Pint)

4 ounces each cocoa and shea butter
2 ounces each olive, jojoba and coconut oil

Conditioner Preparation
Place the cocoa and shea butter in a bowl (preferably glass).

Option 1
Place the bowl in the microwave for one minute.  Followed by fifteen second blasts until melted and softened.  Do not allow to boil.  Place on counter and allow to resolidify for at least one hour.

Option 2 (Preferred)
Place in a cold oven on the bottom shelf, near the pilot light, overnight.  In the morning your mixture should have melted some; however, you should also have a mass of softened butter.  Check your mixture for any hard bits, remove from mixture, soften in microwave and add back to mixture.

Using a mixer or stick blender combine the ingredients allowing air to enter your butter mixture.  At low speed add each of your oils.  Increase the speed incrementally every sixty seconds until you have reached high speed.

Place the mixture in a container and freeze for fifteen to twenty minutes until it begins to harden.  Remove the mixture from the container and mix again at medium to high speed.  Repeat.

Your conditioner/butter should now have the consistency of frosting.

As A PrePoo Conditioner

Part your hair into four sections.  Using a touch-up applicator brush, part hair and apply conditioner to your roots.  Use a slanted applicator brush to apply specifically to the side hairline.  Once you have completed the application process use your fingers to smooth the conditioner down the rest of the hair shaft.  Repeat this process until you have completed each section.  Follow-up with a finger application specifically to your ends.

Keep the conditioner on your hair for at least thirty minutes before rinsing; heat is not required.  Rinse with very warm water.  Follow with a shampoo wash.

As A Body Butter

Can be applied daily.

*  Warning!!!!  Water must not enter the container.  This conditioner/butter contains no emulsifier and will go rancid if it comes into contact with water.  Make certain your hands are dry or use my personal method of scooping the conditioner/butter out of the jar with a spoon and placing it in another container for application.

Welcome

The purpose of this blog is to post my findings while learning to make natural hair and skincare products.  It has now been two and a half years since I first decided to start making my own hair care products and the condition of my hair has improved dramatically.  I have done little in the way of developing skincare products; however, I am hoping to remedy that next year.

I would categorized both my hair and skin as dry.  Currently my hair in almost at bra strap length.  It has a deep wave at the root with dense patches on the left forward side and middle rear.  My skin is so dry that I apply lotion year round.

Over the past two years, I have collected a substantial amount of raw data and will be using this blog to organize that information.  Even with all the information I have gathered, if you have a question about a natural ingredient, just ask.  I have learned so much from other people's questions and I may already have some information about the ingredient.
